It is the result of the spasm of the piriformis muscle. This muscle is in the buttock and when it spasms it will irritate the sciatic nerve. Doctor's Treatment Plan This condition is often chronic in nature and takes time to completely resolve. After the initial inflammation and acute pain is reduced, we focus on the cause of the problem to prevent the muscle from spasming in the future.
